Many have a problem with a God that can’t be figured out. If they don’t know all the answers, God must not be real; it must all be foolishness. For surely, mere man can understand an infinite, all-powerful, all-knowing God. Right?
Blinded to the Truth
It should be no surprise, that the Bible tells us the enemy blinds the minds of unbelievers. “The god of this age (Satan) has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” 2 Corinthians 4:4
I Corinthians 1:18,21 continues with, “I know very well how foolish it sounds to those who are lost, when they hear that Jesus died to save them. But we who are saved recognize this message as the very power of God. For God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never find God through human brilliance, and then he stepped in and saved all those who believed his message, which the world calls foolish and silly.”
I don’t know about you, but I’m okay if the world calls me foolish and silly. If they can persecute, beat and hang a sinless man named Jesus, then surely they can and will call me names.
Good vs. Evil
You don’t have to look far to see that evil exists in this world, but thankfully so does good. Our mission is to be aware of that battle and to choose wisely which side we will be on. “ For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:12
We have an enemy that is counting on us to never believe our salvation is at stake, and to continue walking blindly through life. “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
Mysterious Yet Simple and Beautiful
As mysterious as God is, He tells us clearly how we can decide for ourselves if He is real. His Words says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13
And He will make it clear to you when you truly seek; our part is to accept His free gift, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 And, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”Romans 10:9
Scripture is clear in that God is indeed mysterious, transcending our human ability to completely understand. But would we want it any other way? Would we really want a God we could figure out? If so, what would make Him any different than us?
This is so true
Amen!
I do not want God any other way — as scripture says, He is perfect in all His ways.
Great post, Lesley!
So true, Lesley- never thought about it from that perspective- why would we want a God who was small enough we could completely understand Him. Thanks for sharing!
