Here I am, Lord...

Most of us have been let down, lied to, betrayed or in some way hurt by other people. It can take a toll on our ability to trust others and to trust God. People will fail us, but God is faithful and promises to never leave us nor forsake us. He will never fail us. But sometimes life is hard and it can be hard to trust God when things are crumbling around you and you don’t see what He is doing.

So what do you do? Here are a few suggestions:

Take one day at a time. Don’t look into the future or try to forecast what is going to happen. Trust God one day at a time. One practice I do is when things are tough, I repeat over and over…… I trust you Jesus. I trust you Jesus. I trust you Jesus. When I look to next week or next month, I get anxious and worried instead of allowing Him to work things out day by day in His way and in His timing.

Ask God to help you trust Him. It’s hard to trust someone you cannot see or touch but that’s the beauty of faith. And the more you trust, the easier it becomes. We have to learn let go and not let what we see or hear deter us from trusting our God. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)

Know Your Limitations. In John 15:5, Jesus says that apart from Him, we can do nothing. We have to learn to lean on Him for help with every part of our lives. A lot of us go to church, learn what God’s word says and then try to do it on our own. God wants us to put Him first in our lives. He wants us to put our complete trust and faith in Him for everything in our lives.

Study His Word. As believers, we have the Holy Spirit inside of us. And the Holy Spirit will increase our faith through the Word of God. The more you read and soak in God’s Word, the more your faith will grow. The more you act on the Word and apply it to your life, the more your faith will grow. Spiritual growth involves God working in us through His Word, and us responding to Him with a grateful heart that seeks to obey Him and follow His will.

If you follow these tips, your faith will grow and your stress level will decrease! His ways are always better than ours. Learn to trust Him.
